Description
It is a fish with an elongated and stout body, flat on the sides. The colour is greenish in the dorsal part while the flanks and the belly have a silver colour.
Pelagic species found on the continental shelf up to 200 m deep. It often feeds on anchovies, sardines and bream. It also feeds on cephalopods and crustaceans.
Its most common length is 20 to 60 cm, and can reach up to 115 cm.
Its spawning season is in spring and summer.
It is captured with different gear: Fixed gillnets, trammel and longline.
A whitefish, its meat is very healthy and nutritious. It has a good level of proteins and minerals.
