Description
It is a fish with an elongated body, large eyes and mouth, and small teeth. The colour of the back is bluish-black with silver sides and a white belly. It has a black spot on the upper part of the gill and the fins range from grey to red.
It lives in groups in coastal areas and sandy sea bottoms. It is usually found in depths between 10 and 200 m. It feeds on crustaceans, fish and cephalopods.
It is a fish measuring between 10 and 30 cm, with a maximum length of 60 cm.
Its spawning season is during the summer and autumn. Its fishing season is from April to October.
It is captured with different gear: Dragnet y fixed gillnets.
A blue fish rich in proteins of high biological value, in addition to a high content of vitamins and minerals.
