Description
It is a fish of elongated body, slightly flat on the sides and an oval section with a very large mouth. The colour ranges from greenish blue on the back, silver on the sides and whitish on the belly.
It lives in the marine environment and is sometimes close to the bottom, swimming in large schools that move in depths between 10 and 100 m and live near the coast. It feeds mainly on planktonic organisms.
It is a fish with lengths between 9 and 14 cm, with a maximum length of 20 cm.
Its spawning season is during the summer and early autumn.
It is captured with different gear: Fixed gillnets and dragnet.
A blue fish, its meat is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and rich in protein and minerals.
