Description
The monkfish is characterized by having a very flat head and a very wide mouth, smooth skin and no scales. It has a violet brown colour with some whitish spots.
It lives on the seabed, on muddy or sandy soils near the coast from depths of 20 m. It feeds mainly on fish that it attracts by opening its mouth.
The spawning season takes place in the months of January and February.
The fish in our coasts have a maximum length of 80 or 90 cm, but exceptionally they can reach 2 m in length.
