Description
Fish with a high body, flat on its sides, with an elongated snout and a relatively small mouth. Its colour is silvery grey or gold with five broad transverse and dark stripes.
It lives on rocky sea bottoms at greater depths than the other fish of the family, between 30 and 40 m, rarely approaching the coast. It feeds on small invertebrates and algae.
It is one of the largest scale fish, as it can exceed 50 cm in length, easily weighing one kilogram.
Its spawning season takes place between January and April.
It is captured with different gear: Trammel, longline, dragnet and fixed gillnets.
