Description
It is a fish with an oval-shaped body, with a large head and powerful jaws. Its bluish grey colour on the back gets lighter on the sides and finishes with a whitish tone on the underbody. It has metallic tones from mouth to tail, and a slightly marked golden stripe.
It is a pelagic species; it normally lives in the open seas, but sometimes, especially when looking for food, it approaches the coast. It lives in depths between 20 and 70 m. It feeds on fish and invertebrates.
It is a fish that can attain a length between 30 and 50 cm, but it can reach up to 190 cm.
Its spawning season is from late May to late June.
It is captured with different gear: Dragnet, trammel, fixed gillnets and longline.
